Every year on September 20th, Offshore Day brings together the global offshore community to celebrate the pride, teamwork, and spirit that define life at sea. It is a moment to share stories, honour achievements, and shine a light on the people who keep industries moving forward. Often far from home.
More than a celebration, Offshore Day is a tribute to the strength of offshore professionals worldwide and their vital role in building a safe and sustainable future for crews, partners, and clients.
Travel Around the World
This year’s theme, “Travel Around the World”, highlighted the truly global nature of offshore life. From the North Sea to distant oceans, offshore professionals work across borders, cultures, and time zones — connected by resilience, teamwork, and pride.
The theme reflected not only the physical journeys offshore crews make, but also the cultural bonds and friendships forged along the way. Offshore life means being far from home, yet always part of a worldwide community that speaks the same language of dedication and perseverance.
Stories from the Offshore Community
In 2025, Offshore Day shone a light on those journeys — the stories of people who cross oceans to power our world, support industries, and build a sustainable energy future.
Wouter Bezuidenhout – Electrician, Jack-Up Barge
For Wouter, offshore work begins with safety — every step, every shift. Yet what defines his offshore journey most is the trust and connection he has built with colleagues and mentors.
“Offshore is about safety, growth, and the connections that make us stronger.”
Rui Cesar – Crane Operator, Jack-Up Barge
Rui ends each workday with gratitude, saying “thank you” three times. Known for his positivity, he shows how atmosphere and attitude matter just as much as skill offshore.
“With gratitude and a good atmosphere on board, there’s always a reason to smile offshore.”
Marilena – Radio Operator & Medic, SWIFT 10
Working in a mostly male team, Marilena has found her balance by connecting with colleagues through shared interests, from sports to fitness, while also valuing regular conversations with friends onshore. Mutual respect and inclusivity are key to her sense of safety and belonging.
“I trust in mutual respect — of diversities and gender — to build an environment where I can feel 100% safe.”
Erik Boon – Offshore Installation Manager, SWIFT 10
For Erik, offshore life is both demanding and rewarding. He takes pride in leading the Swift’s return to full operation after years of standstill, transforming challenges into success.
“Offshore work is demanding, but turning challenges into success is what makes me proud.”
