From classroom to jack-up barge
The visit was organised in collaboration with Calypso Engineering and formed the prize for the winning pitch in a student assignment. As part of the assignment, a group of 24 students worked on a practical offshore case study, challenging them to apply their academic knowledge to a real-world engineering context.
During the visit, Gijs Holland guided the students around JB 115 and introduced them to the day-to-day operation of the unit. Particular attention was given to the jack-up system and the technology that enables the barge to provide a stable offshore working platform.
For Jack-Up Barge, visits like these are an opportunity to bring theory and practice closer together. By sharing our experience with the next generation of offshore professionals, we aim to provide students with a better understanding of the people, equipment and expertise required to deliver offshore projects safely and efficiently.
The programme concluded with lunch on board JB 114, which was another highlight of the day.
