Managing Director Jack-Up Barge & Swift Drilling

We are searching for a managing director (MD) to lead Jack-Up Barge Operations and Swift Drilling, both family members of the Van Es Group. This role requires a leader who excels in operational execution and strategic planning. In other words, the MD will oversee daily operations while pursuing long-term strategies. Equally important is the role of a people manager: guiding and inspiring the team to align with these strategic goals, fostering accountability, and translating our employee’s ambitions into actionable results. This vacancy outlines the companies involved and their key responsibilities.

Your role

🔹 Lead and inspire a team of 8 direct reports

Key responsibilities  

• Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to achieve growth and profitability for Jack-Up Barge Operations and Swift Drilling, focusing on internal expansions and a deliberate approach to engaging with relevant markets. Align long-term goals with the vision of the Van Es Group, ensuring that both companies are positioned for future success. In parallel, identify and mitigate risks, making informed decisions that support long-term growth. Emphasise innovation and strategic initiatives to enhance the companies’ competitive position.
• Leadership: Lead and coach a team of 8 direct reports, each specialising in different disciplines. Foster collaboration and ensure their efforts are aligned with the companies’ objectives, improving overall performance, efficiency and quality.
• Operations: Oversee the successful execution of projects, ensuring they meet contractual obligations, timelines, and budgets. Focus on optimising project delivery to enhance the operational success of both companies. This ensures that all operations comply with industry regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines. Strive for the highest quality in the sector, setting industry standards and promoting a culture of safety and excellence within both companies.
• Full P&L responsibility: Manage and optimize the company’s financial performance and evaluate the company’s assets, equipment, and personnel.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and strengthen strong and vital relationships with key stakeholders, including current and prospective clients, commercial partners, and members of the Van Es Group, while responding proactively to market developments in the offshore industry. Ensure clear and consistent communication to foster trust and collaboration at all levels.

Professional experience, qualifications, and personal competencies

• University degree: Advanced degree in engineering, business administration, or related field.
• Experience: Over 10 years of general management experience with full P&L responsibility.
• Industry expertise: Proven track record in managing and delivering offshore projects across Wind, Oil, & Gas, with a strong understanding of market development and dynamics. Experience across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the US.
• Leadership skills: Demonstrated ability to create, lead teams, and drive organisational change.
• Technical foundation: Experience in asset-heavy industries and managing complex projects.
• Knowledge of the applicable aspects of the corporate management system: contract management, financial and administrative management, QHSE, personnel and planning, procurement & logistics, and maintenance management.
• Agility and opportunity: Ability to capitalise on market opportunities and navigate industry challenges.
• Communication skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
